Where It Started
Rocket City Armory was founded by Jared Hill. Being a native of the 256 area, he grew up enjoying the great outdoors, sports, hunting, marksmanship, history, avocational archaeology, family, and friends.
At the age of 12, he completely disassembled a Kar98k bolt action rifle that was an heirloom in his family home garage, to the shock of his parents. He capably cleaned, repaired, and restored it, demonstrating his parents’ concerns were unfounded and revealing a natural gift. At this time, his interest in firearms began to become a passion.
Jared is greatly inspired by two of his great-grandfathers who served on each side of the Second World War. His appreciation for the sacrifices these men made and for how they fought their battles helped to grow that passion. Of equal interest to Jared is the history of the evolutionary firearm designs fielded in this era.
Following his high school graduation, Jared chose to attend Piedmont Community College in Roxboro, North Carolina, where one of the few gunsmithing programs in the United States remains. After graduation as a certified professional gunsmith, he fully realized his dream of opening a full-fledged business in Madison that could best serve the needs of the Huntsville metro area of North Alabama.
Jared has spent countless hours studying and perfecting various skill sets that are crucial and necessary to perform work as a professional gunsmith. Jared sees gunsmithing as an art, and his attention to detail is of the utmost importance. As with each and every job, the pursuit of perfection and precision is prioritized for each firearm that comes across Jared’s bench.
